Is AI Trustworthy?

If you follow the news or tune into a Financial Business show, you know that Artificial Intelligence is the biggest thing around these days except maybe Taylor Swift. AI is going to be the answer to everything they say. I run Microsoft’s Windows on my PCs and several years ago they replaced Internet Explorer as their internet browser with Edge and Bing as the search engine.

Some months back they added AI to Edge and Bing and the latter has been outfitted with a Chat that supposedly uses AI to answer all your questions. Being tax prep season, I inquired of Bing if the software I use to do my taxes could handle the 1040SR, a recent form for seniors to use. I received two answers within seconds. On the left side of the screen there was a box enclosing the word – NO along with some text. On the right side a box enclosing the word – YES and again with some text. Well there’s a confidence builder for you. Found my answer elsewhere. As President said once about the USSR – “Trust but verify.”

A day or two later it was announced that former Trump advisor Peter Navarro was sentenced to 4 months in prison for contempt of congress. I was curious if others who had been found in contempt also received jail time. So I went back to Mr. Chat in Bingo and asked for a list of all persons who had ever been charged with contempt of congress and all I got back was Peter Navarro. I knew this wasn’t right as another advisor Steve Bannon suffered the same fate. And I also knew that Attorney General Eric Holder, or better known by and called Obama’s wingman, had been found in contempt of congress. How many months of jail time did he serve? If you said not a single minute, you are right on. So far I’ve been unable to locate any list with Democrats on it. Hmmm.

The point being, bias is apparently being built into the AI systems as with the social media sites and you are likely to get incomplete answers.
